Hello South America, hello Ecuador, hello Guayaquil…Next stop Galapagos Islands!

The flight was nice and uneventful to Guayaquil, (pronounced way-a-kill) Ecuador, which is how we like it. We had booked a cheap hotel in the city center close to the tourist strip and city attractions. We stumbled upon a park nearby adjoining a church that was full of iguanas… they were everywhere, wandering along the footpaths, sunbaking on the grass and all through the trees! - Kids were chasing them, grabbing their tails and feeding them junk…

We wandered around the city for the rest of the afternoon before flying to the Galapagos the next morning. It’s always fun going into pharmacies trying to ask for travel sickness medicine or even something for headaches in Spanglish. “No this one much better”, we look at the label.. all kinds of stuff plus a large dose of caffeine!

We were starting to get excited about heading across to the islands, something we had booked six months earlier and wanted to do for a long time before that (Steph especially, stemming from watching David Attenboroughs’ Galapagos on a Sunday night as a small child).
